The families of his victims sing his praises–the result of a witch’s cruel curse that condemns him to be forever surrounded by false adulation. Marcela’s world has been turned upside-down–literally. Once a proud member of her father King Triton’s royal guard, she’s now the victim of an angel’s curse. In a cruel twist of fate, the very magic that gave her the means to pursue her passion also broke the spell that caused it. Now she’s in the angel’s arms, but how can either of them trust the desire churning inside them when so much magic has muddied the waters?

Trust isn’t easy when nothing is as it seems . . .

A mermaid with legs and no singing voice. An angel with a curse. A witch with a chip on her shoulder. The world is full of magic and mayhem, and for an angel and a mermaid, it will take more than a kiss to balance…the Divine Scales.

Character Interview A Bridge Through Time

21 Nov

bridgetimebanner

Today I’m interviewing one of the main characters of time travel romance “A Bridge Through Time”, Ashley Moore. I hope you all enjoy the interview!

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

Of course, but first I’d like to thank you for having me here.  My name is Ashley Moore and I was born and raised in San Francisco, California.  I’ve always been a bit of a homebody, but lately I’ve been trying to step outside of my comfort zone.  I love horses.  My mother signed me up for lessons when I was quite young and it’s been a lifelong love affair ever since.  My friends will tell you, I’m a bit of a chatterbox and I guess it’s true.  I do tend to ramble, especially when I’m nervous.  I love children and was a teacher for a little while.
What is your role in the story?
As the main character in A Bridge Through Time,  I’m in search of  a grey eyed stranger, and that search leads me to Scotland where I end up in the sixteenth century.  I meet some amazing people along the way – some good and some bad.   I have quite the adventure.

What is your favorite hobby?

As I mentioned before,  I love horseback riding, but I also enjoy all kinds of crafty things.   I like to sew, knit, glue things together…  just about any craft you can think of, I’ve tried.

What is the challenge you’re trying to overcome during the story?

I’m learning to be brave, to try new things and to trust enough to give love another chance.   You see, my life wasn’t going the way I had imagined it would.  I was dumped by the only guy I’d ever loved, I lost my job and my apartment.  I just had to pick myself up and do something about it, especially after I started seeing a very handsome Highlander everywhere I went.  I didn’t know who he was or why I was seeing him, especially when no one else could.  I had to do something about it.  I had to prove to myself that I wasn’t losing my mind.  Also, I wanted a chance at a new life.  One filled with love and family.

If you could make one wish, what would it be?

That’s a tough one.  I feel like all of my wishes have already come true,  except one.  I’d really like to see my friend Jenna again.

There she meets a witch with a secret, a vindictive English knight who is bent on revenge, and she crosses a fog shrouded bridge into the arms of a 16th century Highlander.

Cailin MacBayne is no stranger to beautiful women, but has always managed to stay one step ahead of commitment.  That all comes to an end when he meets Ashley.  He doesn’t care where this beautiful, yet unusual lass came from, he’s just happy to have found her.  Ashley cannot resist the handsome Scot and finds herself falling hopelessly in love.  In the process, a secret is revealed, a battle is waged and Ashley must ultimately decide whether to return to her own time or give up her 21st century life to stay with the love she has found in the past.

Promo Post The Music Book Tour

13 Nov

musicbookbanner

I’m hosting the book tour for The Music Book today, with a promo post. I wish I had time to read this one, but luckily I’ll be able to interview the author later on during the tour.

About The Book

coverTitle: The Music Book

Author: Dave O’Leary

Genre: Literary Fiction

What does music mean? Can it be more than the sum of its notes and melodies? Can it truly change you? Rob, a musician turned reluctant music critic, poses these questions as everything important in his life appears to be fading—memories of lost love, songs from his old bands, even his hearing. He delves into the music of others to find solace and purpose, and discovers that the chords and repeated phrases echo themes that have emerged in his own life. The music sustains him, but can it revive him?

The Music Book is a story of loss, of fear and loneliness, of a mutable past. But most of all it’s about music as a force, as energy, as a creator of possibility. What might come from the sound of an A chord played just so? Rob listens. And among other things, he finds surprising companionship with a cat; another chance at love; and the courage to step on a stage again and finally, fully comprehend the power of sound.

Author Bio

DaveO'Leary_photo_webDave O’Leary is a writer and musician living in Seattle. His second novel, The Music Book (Booktrope, November 2014), is a collection of the writings O’Leary has done about Seattle bands for both Northwest Music Scene (http://www.northwestmusicscene.com/author/davemusic/) and the now defunct Seattle Subsonic. It is a fictional narrative wrapped around and within the actual music, a story about live music in Seattle and, more broadly, about the power of music in our lives. A CD of the music experienced in the book will be released by Seattle indie label, Critical Sun Recordings.

His first book, Horse Bite (Infinitum), was published in 2011.

Character Interview Cursed Heroes: The Beginnings Blog Tour

8 Nov

cursedheroesbanner

I’m hosting a character interview today for the tour for science-fiction / fantasy “Cursed Heroes: The Beginnings”. I hope you enjoy the character interview, and welocme to Carlton Joan, one of the characters of this book.

Can you tell us a little about yourself? Who are you? What is your role in the story?

My name is Carlton Joan, and I am the man that destroyed the world. I once was a brilliant scientist and inventor. I used my knowledge to help all of human kind for a time. That is until I wanted power and did anything to get it. But now I serve one role in life and that is to clean up after mankind’s mistakes for the rest of time, or atleast until they leave earth.

What is your favorite hobby?

Hobbies well that’s a hard one see that I have a lot of time on my hands. Let’s see I’ve done almost everything that one could possibly call a hobby but out of them all I would say I like collecting things, animals mostly. In fact, I have one of the biggest, well zoos in the universe consisting of almost 20 million different animals. Most from earths different time periods and some from other planets that my sons live on.

What is the challenge you’re trying to overcome during the story?

Well I would have to say my lust for power would have to be my biggest challenge to get over. Having to give it up and find a way to save everyone while not getting credit for it just killed me inside at first. But I managed to find a way to get over it and learn to do what I had to.

If you could make one wish, what would it be?

If I had a wish to get anything I wanted, I would wish for a daughter.

Tell us a secret about you.
My secret that no one else knows, hmm well there are a lot but I guess the one anyone can picture is the Ice age, yep that was kind of my fault. I was experimenting with a new plant and it back fired on me. The planet grew faster than I thought and produced so much oxygen so fast that before I could get it under control it had grown into a forest covering seventy percent of the planets land mass. Then one stray lighting bloat close to the center of the forest triggered a massive explosion, which in turn set the whole forest on fire. And being fueled by so much oxygen the forest burned to the ground within hours fill the air around the whole planet with smoke and ash. Which blocked out the sun for a few days and the rest well its history.

31 Oct

I’m sharing a snippet today rom a multicultural contemporary romance entitled “Phoenix Rising”. Have fun reading the snippet!

Book Excerpt

Clearing his throat, JP sat down behind his desk. “I called you down here to let you know that my father and I have decided to have the lawyers look into dissolving your partnership,” he said.

“You and your father? Or just you, JP?” she said, walking over to look out of the floor to ceiling window.

“Well, I was given my father’s votes, so yes, me and my father,” JP said in a superior tone. “Your work this past year has been mediocre at best. You are hardly here and I just think that a partnership is more than you are prepared to handle right now. We will, of course, let you maintain your position with the company as the COO but you would no longer be a partner,” JP said leaning back in his chair and looking at Phoenix. Turning to look at him, Phoenix walked up to his desk, slammed her hand on the top and leaned in.

“Let me tell you something, you sniveling little weasel. I MADE this company. Your father was on the way to closing the doors and I brought it back to life. So you go ahead and try and break the partnership contract. I will fight you tooth and nail,” she said before turning to walk out of his office. “Oh and JP, unlike Sharon, when I get your balls in a trap, it won’t be to make you my husband,” she said slamming the office door.

Book Review Hard Love

29 Oct

14406471Title: Hard Love: The Pleasure and the Pain

Author: William J. Warren

Genre: Poetry

A poetry collection by author William J. Warren

I don’t often read poetry, but this collection touched me. It talks about hardships, about love, about the good and bad, about life, and about so much more. It’s a short, quick read, and you can even read just one poem, and then stop, and take it up at another time, but I read through it all at once. There’s a recurrent theme throughout all the poems, and the title sums it up nicely. A solid collection.

The Exemeus Book Tour: Book Excerpt and Giveaway

4 Jan

exemeusbannerWe’re hosting an excerpt from The Exemeus today. The Exemeus is a YA Fantasy novel by author-duo Folami and Abeni Morris.

Excerpt

A scream rippled through the emerald-green sea. “You’ve got to be kidding me,” Singleton groaned. I sighed deeply, trying to remain composed. Another scream pierced our ears, this one coming from a different direction. Within seconds the horizon was filled with no less than twenty of the slug-like creatures traveling with chilling military-style precision towards us. They were all swimming from different directions, their eyes flickering in the distance.

“Hyles, leave.”

“No,” I said firmly.

“I’m losing too much blood as it is. I’ll never make it back and who’ll avenge my mother? Get out of here. I will not watch you die too! Do it now, Hyles!”

“Would you leave me?” I challenged him, racking my mind for a course of attack.

I gripped my sword awkwardly in my hand as I tried to keep Singleton afloat with the other one. “Hyles, just go or we’ll both die.” The creatures were close enough for us to see their rattling teeth. The combined affect of their screams was enough to shatter our eardrums. “Hyles, go!” he said again. The creatures were no more than eight feet away, and it was clear that neither of us was getting out of here alive.

Heir to a legendary power, Dephon Johnson is the only threat to the government’s rule. And on Trepton, all threats must be eliminated. When hundreds of assassins are dispatched to neutralize him, Dephon is forced to fight back. His only chance of survival is to enlist the aid of the greatest warrior the world has ever known. The only problem is, she’s been dead for 13 years.

Author Bio

Folami and Abeni Morris are a sister-sister writing team. Together they wrote (and rewrote) The Exemeus series, somehow managing to accomplish it without murdering one another. Despite their tendency to finish each others thoughts and stick up for each other constantly, no, they’re not twins and thus deserve their own individual bio.

Folami Morris

Folami grew up in the tiny city of San Mateo Ca, where nothing ever happens and no one ever leaves. She went to Xavier University for undergraduate, getting her B.A in physics and her B.S in Biology. After graduation she returned to California, to live in an even smaller city, where even less happens, Antioch Ca. During this time she escaped the monotony by hanging out with her imaginary friends Hyalee and Dephon, and by writing the Exemeus.

She finally escaped to Queens NY and now realizes that quiet and tiny aren’t so bad.

Abeni Morris

As luck (and logic) would have it, Abeni grew up in the same tiny little town as her sister, then she too escaped to the tinier town of Antioch. She has yet to leave. She received her bachelor’s degree in early childhood development from Cal State East Bay. She is the mom of two amazing kids, who swear that they deserve a percentage of the book proceeds and a ton of the credit. At least she raised dreamers.
