Author Interview with Lucy Varna

21 Oct

Today is interview time! I’m interviewing Lucy Varna, author of paranormal romance / suspense “The Enemy Within”. Thanks so much to the author for answering my questions!

1.) First, tell us about yourself- where you live, your family and those sorts of details.

I live in northeast Georgia with my teen-aged son, who is a computer and gaming geek. My family is from this area, so I know many of the people who live around me. In fact, I live right next door to my father and within two miles of my sister.

2.) How long have you been writing?

I started out in non-fiction, which I’ve been writing for at least a decade. (Academic stuff. Very dry.) In November 2013, I made the transition to fiction, something I’ve wanted to do since I was a teenager.

3.)Do you have a favorite place to write?

I spend most of my writing time on my made-up bed, which makes a handy work surface as well as being comfortable. Yes, it’s true: Writers really do work in their pajamas! 🙂

4.)Why did you decide to write The Enemy Within?

The Enemy Within is the third book in the Daughters of the People Series. Many of the plot elements were set when I plotted the overall series arc. I didn’t decide on the characters until they presented themselves to me. Bobby Upton, one of the main characters, appeared in the first two books in the series, The Prophecy and Light’s Bane. I enjoyed working with him so much, I decided to give him his own story, and The Enemy Within is where he ended up.

5.)Do you proofread/edit your own books or do you get someone else to do that for you?

I proofread and edit my own books before and after they hit someone else’s desk, but I also have an alpha reader (who reads stories as they’re created) and an editor. Once I get stories back from my editor, I make final changes, if needed, and do another read-through to make certain everything is exactly the way it needs to be.

6.)Tell us what you’re working on at the moment.

A couple of things, actually. As far as writing goes, I’m about two-thirds of the way through the first draft of Say Yes, a stand alone set in the same world as the Daughters of the People Series. I’m in the middle of the first round of edits/revisions on Tempered, also set in the world of the People, which will be released in December. I’m also plotting the next manuscript (the fourth book in the Daughters of the People Series), plus I write under another pen name. So, lots going on!

After fourteen years, Indigo Dupree returns to Tellowee, Georgia, to face the past she left behind. She’s tried of running, tired of hiding, and wants nothing more than to help her mother through the final days of her pregnancy. What she doesn’t want is to become romantically entangled, not even to the sinfully handsome Bobby Upton, whose kiss sent her fleeing a decade and a half before.

Bobby is the son of the Blade and a ruthless warrior in his own right. At sixteen, the age of manhood among the People, he tried to claim the woman he loved and failed, and spent the next decade hacking his way through Uncle Sam’s enemies. Now a successful businessman, he’s given the task of tracking down the People’s enemies, including India Furia, the twin sister of his heart’s only love.

Duty demands that Indigo atone for the sins of her sister by helping to bring her in. India has other ideas, ones that draw Indigo and Bobby into a deadly game involving the Prophecy of Light, forcing Indigo to choose between her duty and her heart.
