Woohoo! I’m interviewing Carol Braswell today, author of romantic suspense “Saving Jamie”. Interviewing people is always a blast, and I’m glad to share this interview with the world. Thanks for taking the time to respond to my interview questions, Carol!

1.) First, tell us about yourself- where you live, your family and those sorts of details.

I’m a die-hard country girl. My hero/husband and I live eighteen miles from the closest big city on six acres in east Texas. We bought the land, cleared it, put in a large pond and built our dream home. We have four grown children, four grandchildren, and one great-grandson. We share our home with three very spoiled Maltese and two outdoor cats who adopted us. I have two dreams; to be on the New York Times best seller list and to completely landscape all six acres of our property. Both will happen eventually but don’t know which will come first.

2.) How long have you been writing?

I started writing in grade school but seriously eight years ago. I grew up on a farm with four male cousins, two uncles and my grandparents. Because I was the only girl, I was the teacher, would make up stories and force my younger cousins to sit and listen. One by one they would find an excuse to leave and I ended up talking to the animals in the barn. I got great reviews. The animals followed me around. I’m sure they wanted an autograph or another treat.
3.) Do you have a favorite place to write?
If it wasn’t so hot and the mesquites wouldn’t bite me, I’d live in the pergola. My handy man husband built it for me a few years ago and it is covered with Carolina Jasmine. The scent in early spring is intoxicating and so inspiring. But in Texas you have both heat and bugs so I sit with my laptop in the recliner in front of the television. The tv is not distracting to me as I am usually doing more than one thing at a time.
4.) Why did you decide to write Saving Jamie?
Finding Amy is actually about locating her identical twin, Jamie. But Amy is theonly person who knows where she is. Even though the story is to rescue Jamie, her sister is the main character. Several of my readers let me know they didn’t like Jamie. Therefore, I had to redeem her and it had to be in her own book. But not without obstacles.
5.) Do you proofread/edit your own books or do you get someone else to do that for you?
I do both. Once I write The End I read the story again and make corrections as needed. If I do make corrections, I read it again until I can’t find any more errors. Then the story goes to beta readers who also make suggestions and corrections. After those corrections are made, I read it again. If I don’t find anything to correct it goes to my editor. After two passes by the editor, corrections made, it goes to a final proof reader. Time consuming but all necessary steps.

6.) Tell us what you’re working on at the moment.

I am working on the third book of the Garrett series. Unless someone steps up, this should be the last in this series. It is about the youngest Garrett brother, Justin. Both Finding Amy and Saving Jamie take place at the Garrett Quarter Horse ranch. Justin’s Gamble (tentatively named) is set in Las Vegas at a Veterinary convention where he is abducted by a gorgeous biker chick, gets left to die in the desert and falls in love. Not necessarily in that order. He is on his own and doesn’t want to ask his lawmen brothers back in Texas for help.

Author Bio

IMG_3588Carol Braswell has been writing since 1994. She took it seriously three years ago when a newspaper story caught her eye and Finding Amy was born. But Amy had an identical twin and her story had to be told as well. Saving Jamie dictated her story, Carol listened and Jamie’s adventure came to life.

“Several beta readers told me they didn’t like Jamie in the first book. That’s exactly how I wanted her to come across. But I had to redeem her in Saving Jamie. My editor said I had.”

Mrs. Braswell says she writes what she loves to read. That is a lot of suspense and a little romance thrown in to keep the emotions flowing. Her page turners keep you on the edge wondering just what will happen next. And you never have to wait long for a hunt and capture or a steamy roll in the sheets. Her books are loaded with both.

At present Mrs. Braswell is working on three books and plans to release two more after re-writes. “It is a daunting task, to say the least, but will be well worth the effort.”

She lives in east Texas with her hero husband who can fix anything and three very spoiled Maltese. She says her home was built for comfort and tranquility. Hubby built her a pergola where she escapes to writes.
