Character Interview The Blue Effect Tour

I’m hosting a character interview today for the book tour for adult urban fantasy / scifi “The Blue Effect”. The character I’m interviewing is called Blue Brennan, and she’s the main character of the book. Welcome to The Book Daily, Blue.

Can you tell us a little about yourself? Who are you? What is your role in the story? I grew up in Seattle with my drunk of a mother. She kicked me out when I was 16 and I spent a lot of years doing my best to turn into her. Until I met Kasey.

As to who I am, I think that’s really what this story is about. I don’t think I really knew who I was or what I was capable of until I stopped hiding and starting to give a sh** about someone else. Discovering my abilities was like winning the lottery. Overwhelming and amazing. Life transforming.

With everything that happened to me and my friends, which you can read about in the book, it seems like the entire story centered on me and all the changes I went through. I discovered some things about myself and my past, encountered a sick, evil psychopath and fell in love. That’s a lot to go through in just a few months!

What is your favorite hobby?
Used to be drinking. HA! Kidding, kidding. Well, only a little. I used to party. A lot. When I met Kasey and discovered what I was, everything changed.

Now, I spend a lot of time honing my abilities, plus Kasey loves those superhero movies, so we go to the theater every time a new one comes out. And he drags me to every nearby Comic-Con he can find without having to get on an airplane. I have to admit, though, it’s pretty fun.

What is the challenge you’re trying to overcome during the story?
Myself. Sometimes we have to get out of our own way, you know? Learning to be okay with yourself is hard sometimes.

I also had to contend with Avery, who just can’t let go of the fact that I’m with Kasey.

Oh, don’t forget the evil psycho. That was no easy feat.

If you could make one wish, what would it be?
Wow! That’s a hard question. I can think of things in my life I wish hadn’t happened, but in the end I don’t think I would change those things since they brought me here and I wouldn’t give up my friends for anything. I could say world peace, but that seems cliché. I guess maybe I’d want my friends to be able to have a chance to be with the family members they’ve lost. I never had a family, so I’m not really missing anything, but Kasey and Val and Esme… they all feel the pain of their lost family. I wish they could be with those people, even if just for a day.

Tell us a secret about you.
Hell, there are secrets about me even I didn’t know. If you want to find out what they are, you’ll have to read the book!

Blue is inexplicably drawn to Kasey and reluctantly enters his world filled with a new breed of humanity. They’re misfits like her, blessed or cursed with powerful abilities, struggling to hide their differences from the rest of society.

Then the group discovers a nameless, faceless sociopath with nightmarish powers; and he’s coming for Blue. She’s left reeling when they discover her gifts are the key to defeating his terrible evil and saving them all.

Now she must race against the clock to harness her own powers and save her new friends. Can she be more than a renegade? Can she be a hero too?

Author Bio

author photoRose Shababy and her family reside in eastern Washington State. Rose grew up in the Northwest but swears she’s going to move to warmer climates someday. She’s claimed this for over 20 years, however, and has yet to move more than 75 miles away from her mother.

Rose has a deep love of all things Star Trek and yearns to travel the heavens, as well as an intense desire to be bitten by a radioactive spider. Unfortunately she sucks at science and math so she hasn’t been able bring her dreams to life, instead living vicariously through books, comics, television and film. She hopes to someday make a million dollars so she can afford to buy her way to the international space station, but she’d settle for being able to fly around the world and leap tall buildings in a single bound.

Rose also loves to cook and worked for years in a gourmet Italian grocery and deli where she learned to hone her skills. She prepares culinary masterpieces for her family, but fervently wishes the dishes would wash themselves. Especially now that her dishwashers/children are nearly grown and only one still lives at home.

Rose likes to use her free time wisely. For instance, she likes to daydream, will often read for hours until she falls asleep on the couch with an electric blanket and a warm tabby cat curled up on her hip, as well as spending cozy weekend days watching Syfy movies like Sharknado and Mega Piranha with her husband.

If Rose were a cartoon animal, she’d prefer to be a wise old owl or a sleek and sexy jaguar, but in reality she’d probably be a myopic mole with coke-bottle glasses.
