‘It’s anyone’s game. Please don’t tell me you believe what you just said only because

they have got Lewis.’

The barista shrugged, but his expression made it very clear he was sure he had already

proven his point.

‘Of course not, they have Ford and Albedo… But Lewis… He is the best out there at

the moment, you have to admit it,’ he said; then, he turned away to make another cup,

still finding time to turn his head and keep the conversation going. ‘This is all or

nothing for them. And I know it’s a sensitive issue for you, but even if Weston doesn’t

win, it’s not gonna be Abercrombie either, sorry.’

The girl rolled her eyes, smiling, yet she clearly disapproved of the guy’s opinion.

‘All right, all right,’ she simply said, waving him off in a friendly way. ‘We’ll see

about that. Thanks for the latte, guys, see you later.’

‘See you!’ the skinny cashier said. ‘Let us know who wins in your dream!’

‘As long as it’s not my father’s team,’ the brunette concluded, smiling. She clocked out

and headed for the exit, walking past Sarah, who was still waiting her turn patiently.

Sarah was tapping her fingers on a folder she was holding that contained her C.V. and

writing samples; she desperately tried to remember where she could have seen the

brunette’s familiar face.

Could it be…? No, she had left Blogue a long time ago—why would she be here, in

this building?

As Sarah finally approached the counter and was about to place her order, she suddenly

heard a high-pitched male voice behind her.

‘Pardon! Coming through! Sorry!’

She turned towards the sound of the voice, frowning, unable to hide her indignation,

and saw a tall young red-haired man making his way towards the counter.

She had seen this man many times in magazines, television spots, and Web articles .

That man she knew very well and his name – unlike the brunette’s – she was able to

recall right away.

Mark Mendez was one of the best photographers not only in the fashion industry but in

the country and possibly even the world. He could turn anything into art if he looked at

it through the lens of his camera. Many hopeful patrons had offered him money and had

promised packed galleries with his name on them, but Mark had chosen to work at

Blogue, the magazine that had shaped him as an artist. Mark considered Blogue to be

his home; the way he spoke of it, whether in an interview or just a brief mention, made

Sarah believe that working there was what he had wanted to do all his life. In a way,

Mark was an example for her, the living definition of loyalty. Without a trace of doubt

on his face or in his eyes, Mark was one of the most passionate supporters, skillful

creators, and faithful readers of the UK’s Fashion Bible.
