Book Excerpt from “Destiny’s Mark” Book Tour

15 Jan

We’re hosting an excerpt from “Destiny’s Mark”, a paranormal romance novel by author KH LeMoyne.

The Excerpt

“Why are you doing this?”

“What exactly?” Tsu replied, eyeing her carefully.

She grasped the hand he touched her with and stared pointedly at him. “This. What you do with me. I appreciate the professional support you’ve given me. But this physical lapse every once in a while is confusing. It’s as if you can’t decide what to do with me. I’m not sure if it wouldn’t be more honest for you to tell me you want to have an affair. Yet, that’s not your style.”

He pulled his hand from hers and wove his fingers in her hair again before lifting it to kiss. “I want to make love to you, if that’s what you’re asking. But I don’t want an affair. Perhaps what is confusing you is that you’ve never had someone take the time to woo you.”

“Woo?” She pushed off his lap.

He withheld a sigh at the loss of her warmth and comfort but stood with her, not hiding the wince. She frowned, glaring at his wound. Good, at least she felt something, too.

“Truly, you can be the most infuriating woman sometimes. Yes, wooing, courting. What a man does to win the hand of a woman who inspires his heart, mind, and body.”

Her eyes widened, considering him as if he were some new species. “No one courts anymore.”

“They have in my lifetime,” he responded with a little more anger than he intended.

“Oh, that’s right. You’re over two hundred years old. Don’t bother distracting me with all the…insane things that have happened around here. Around you.” She leveled him a sarcastic glance and let out a snort. “Is this some game where you tempt me with a kiss and then retreat? Another science experiment, maybe, to see what I’ll do?”

“There is no game between us. I’ve made no secret of my attraction to you. And for such a logical woman, I can’t believe you’re disappointed I’m treating you with respect and honesty.” He scrubbed a hand over his face and sought another way to convince her. “I really don’t care how other men pursue women they find enticing. My only interest is in you.”

She clenched her fists and stepped closer. “Enticing implies that I’ve participated, lured you somehow.”

“Don’t be absurd. You’ve been fed that nonsense by watching other cretins you’ve encountered in your life. But I do need you to make a choice about us. I have no intention of forcing you. I realize how much easier it would be for you to claim I seduced you. However, a choice of your own free will, your own accountability, is my one demand.”

“One minute I’m wooed; the next I have to cross the line and make a choice by myself?”

“Never by yourself. I’m right here. I’ll openly admit you tempt me, every day, and you know it. But I refuse to strip you of the responsibility to be an equal partner in our relationship. We each choose. Except, I’m more vulnerable because you know I’ve already chosen you.”

Jai Dashkov harbors her own painful secrets of harsh betrayal and tender loss. Her desperate search to reclaim her life doesn’t allow room in her heart to deviate for love.
Together they are stronger than apart, but the promise of the covenant is a perpetual test. One that Tsu and Jai must conquer in time or suffer an eternity for their failure.
