Title: The Escape of Princess Madeline
Author: Kristin Pulioff
Genre: MG Fantasy
Publisher: Malachite Quills Publishing

The Kingdom of Soron is known for many things, its rolling landscape, haunting history, fiery sunsets, and its beautiful princess. Princess Madeline woke on her sixteenth birthday to realize that her future had been planned out, a life full of privilege, royalty, and boredom… a life with a husband and knight champion that she did not choose. Using her charm, strength and stubbornness, she defies the King at every turn, determined to keep her freedom on her terms.

Freedom quickly turns to disaster as she finds herself seized by a group of wandering bandits. With the kingdom in turmoil over her capture- her Knight Champion eager to prove himself, a group of dedicated suitors determined to win her hand, and a group of exiled wizards join forces to rescue her. Follow Princess Madeline in this adventure to find freedom and love.

The Escape of Princess Madeline is a fun, delightful read that will enchant both younger and older audiences with its quirky characters, careless adventure and fantastical, magical setting. The story features headstrong Princess Madeline, who’s determined to stop her Dad, who intends to marry her off to an appropriate suitor. Madeline wants to choose her own love, no matter what it takes, even if that means running away and leaving everything behind in search for her freedom.

I just watched the movie Brave the other night, and this book reminded me a lot of that movie. It’s completely different, but the heroines share the same desire: to be free, to choose who they want to marry themselves. I liked Brave, and I liked The Escape of Princess Madeline although they’re both completely different.

The story was fast and enjoyable, and I really liked the characters. This book would be excellent for readers age 9-12.
